Snake Skin for Emblems and Trims

Snake Skin for Emblems and Trims

This is a guide on how to apply Snake Skin products on trims and emblems. The general rules of wearing protective clothing, mask, gloves, eye protection as well as spraying in a well ventilated area above 16c and below 60% humidity applies for all products.

Step 1 - Prep Your Emblems / Trims

  • Start by thoroughly washing the emblems and surrounding panels with the included in every emblem kit pre-cleaner. Throughly rinse around the edges of the emblems as this is where most of dirt is usually. Wipe down and let to dry (best to blow dry). This step is needed if the car had some sort of wax applied, otherwise if it was throughly washed recently and it's clean, it can be skipped.
  • Using the supplied prep towels or using isopropyl alcohol throughly go over the emblem making sure to cover every edge (you can use the spluger tool as well if needed.)
  • Mask off the emblem with the provided masking tape and masking a wide enough area so you don't get overspray on other elements of the car. Make sure edges are pressed tight.

Step 2 - Apply Tack Coats

  • Shake your aerosol can for at least one minute to fully mix and warm the product.
  • Spray the first 4 coats as very light “tack coats” over the emblems and trim, focusing on tight spaces rather than coverage and full color.
  • Make sure not to spray in one place for too long and leave enough time to dry (matt out) between layers

Step 3 - Full Wet Coats

This is usually the hardest part to get right, you want even coverage, but don't want to get any runs. If you are spraying in humid or cold environment or have not let previous layers to dry you don't want to spray too wet. Add at least 3-4 layers depending on thickness making sure to let each layer matt out.

Step 4 - Peel Off, Curing, Care

For some trims and edges you might have to begin peeling the outer masking away from the edge while final coat is still wet as they might pull up on the coating when peeling away dry. After the coating has matted out and is dry you can use the Removal Tool in the kit to peel the coating off around the emblems as shown in the video below:

When done and fully cured (couple of hours of curing) you can use the Matt/Satin Coating on the emblem and you are done.
